Hi all, I have recently acquired a Packard Ball Multimedia 9033 Computer. This system is not very well documented online. It has a Pentium MMX 233, 32MB of RAM, 2GB HDD, CD-ROM and Floppy Disk Drives (it is about equivalent to the.) I think it was released around 1997.

I would like to restore this system to its former glory but the Hard Drive has been wiped so I guess that removes all hope of a recovery partition? It had a very flaky GoldStar CD-ROM which I had to replace with the only IDE Optical Drive I have remaining: a LG DVD-RW drive which is nearly 10 years newer than the PC.) The drive works correctly and is recognised under Windows, the BIOS and the system can boot from it and even DVD-RW disks are recognised and can be booted from. I have downloaded the Packard Bell Windows 95 Master CD from and, once it has booted, it complains that the CD Drive is not recognised and it says 'ErrorLevel is 100'.

Is this due to the drive's age or the fact that I am booting off it? I couldn't try using the boot floppy as I have no way of creating a floppy disk from my main system however, I used ImgBurn to burn the floppy image onto a CD and it booted with the same message as with the Master CD. Am I using the wrong Master CD or is it the optical drive that is failing the restore? Is the boot diskette required to free up the optical drive?

I have done a bit of digging and have found that the restore CD is the closest in age to my Packard Bell but cannot find any of those CD images online. I have managed to install standard Windows 95 OSR/2 but it has none of the compatible drivers or Packard Bell utilities. Any help would be much appreciated, Thanks again, Josh •.

I have installed Windows 98 SE and I have much better driver support. I have also installed a generic CD-ROM driver in MS-DOS Mode that works perfectly however, still no luck with the master CD. I tried running SETUP.EXE in DOS and it skipped a line and did nothing. I also tried DOSMENU.EXE and it loaded up the graphical menu, I clicked the Restore option and it exited back into the DOS prompt.

Is the boot floppy necessary for the CD-ROM to be recognised? When I booted into the CD, I got the same 'ErrorLevel is 100' and 'Unrecognised CD Drive.' Perhaps the floppy frees up the CD Drive to be recognised or is an original Packard Bell CD Drive required? Thanks, Josh •.

Windows 95 driver support has a lot to be desired. I had a computer that was pre-installed with Win95, not even osr2. On a re-install I had to re-install most every driver from a floppy.

When I installed Win98SE most every driver was on the CD. I would stick with 98SE. The Windows 95 CD did not have the ability to boot from a CD. A startup floppy was required to install the various CD drivers. Possibly the person who uploaded the Master CD gave it a boot loader or the drivers on the CD do not support the CD you have.It's also possible the iso is corrupt.

From my understanding a floppy must be booted that is linked to the CD. This message is given by the Master CD floppy disk, if the floppy disk does not match the Master CD in the drive. Sorry for the late reply, I have been waiting for some floppy disks to arrive in the mail so I could create the Packard Bell Restore Diskette. I have managed to create a Restore Diskette with all of the correct CD drivers and everything was working flawlessly, however, I have been using the Master CD from around 1996 which is too old for my system and this has installed the wrong version of Windows 95 (Version 4.00.950A which I think is OEM Release 1) instead of OSR2 which would add USB Support. Therefore, it has installed the wrong display driver for my S3 Trio 64V+ so I can only use 640x480@60Hz because any higher resolutions run at weird refresh rates (800x600@56Hz and 1024x768@43Hz Interlaced.) I cannot find the appropriate 1997 Master CD with Windows 95 OSR2.1.
